Overview
The Best Tourism Company in Istanbul, Turkey: Where VIP Means Time, Access and Care
Istanbul is the only great city that begins on one continent and ends on another, and it rewards the traveller who arrives with time, access and a host they can trust. The History Travel Agency exists to give you all three. We are a TÜRSAB-licensed travel agency and tour operator in Istanbul (licence No. 7377), and we plan everything from a single private day in the Old City to state-level visits, corporate programmes, football-club tours and celebrations across Turkey.
What “VIP” actually means with us
Anyone can put a guest in a black car. We build the day around what actually protects your time: the order in which sites are visited, the hour you reach a queue before it forms, the driver who already knows which gate is open, and the licensed guide who explains the mosaic instead of reciting a date. A VIP day with The History Travel is quieter, slower where it should be slow, and never rushed where the city deserves attention.
That standard travels with us from a couple on their first visit to a delegation of forty. The same senior host who confirms a private Bosphorus sunset can coordinate the vehicles, hotel arrivals and dinner venues of an official programme, and stays reachable by phone and WhatsApp at any hour of the day or night.
Why Istanbul repays a private approach
This city has been the capital of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires, and every one of them left a monument on the same small peninsula. Hagia Sophia, the Hippodrome, the Basilica Cistern, Topkapı Palace and the Grand Bazaar sit within a short walk of each other, yet visitors who arrive without a plan lose half a day to ticket lines and detours. A private itinerary turns that walk into a story that runs from the 4th century to the 19th, in the right order, at the right pace.
Beyond the peninsula lies the second city: the Bosphorus shoreline with its wooden waterfront mansions, the palaces of the last sultans, the hills of Beyoğlu and the Asian side, where Istanbul eats, gossips and lives. We know both cities, and we know when each of them is at its best.
Who we serve
Our guests include independent travellers and families, honeymooners, corporate teams, schools and sports clubs, and organisations that need a dependable partner for official visits, receptions and negotiations. Each programme is written for the people in it. Nothing is copied from a brochure, and nothing is added that you did not ask for.
Topic Highlights
VIP tourism services in Istanbul and across Turkey
Government, embassy, consulate and diplomatic programmes
These are the moments guests describe in their reviews long after the trip: small decisions, made well, that add up to a very different kind of holiday.
Time is treated as the real luxury
Your day is sequenced around crowd patterns, prayer times, museum closing days and traffic on the Bosphorus bridges. You arrive when the sites breathe, not when everybody else does.
One licensed guide who tells the whole story
A professional guide links a Byzantine mosaic to an Ottoman tile to a modern street, so the city reads as a single narrative instead of a list of monuments.
Door-to-door chauffeured comfort
Your vehicle waits at each stop, keeps water and cool air ready, and removes the steep uphill walks and taxi negotiations that tire visitors of every age.
A private yacht for the Bosphorus
Two continents pass by at your own speed: waterfront mansions, fortresses and palaces, with the skyline turning gold behind you.
Tables chosen for flavour, not for commission
Lunches and dinners are booked at places we would take our own families, from Ottoman-style kitchens to fresh fish on the water, with dietary needs handled in advance.
A human being on the other end, always
Guests repeatedly mention how quickly we answer. Your host is on WhatsApp and the phone around the clock, from your first question to your flight home.
VIP Services
Twelve Ways We Serve Istanbul’s Most Demanding Travellers
Every category below is planned and delivered by the same team. Each one has its own rhythm, its own risks and its own etiquette, so each gets its own approach.
Government, State and Official VIP Travel
Visits by heads of state, prime ministers, ministers and members of parliament follow a script of protocol, timing and discretion. We support that script; we never try to replace it. Our team works with your delegation office and the relevant local authorities to prepare arrival and departure routes, vehicle allocation, hotel logistics, interpreter support and cultural programmes for spouses and staff. The brief is simple: no surprises for the principal, and no improvisation that the advance team has not approved.
Typical programme
Advance site visits and route planning
Motorcade-ready vehicle coordination
Private opening-hour arrangements where permitted
Embassies, Consulates and Foreign Missions
Diplomatic life runs on details: a visiting minister’s schedule, a national-day reception, a delegation from the capital that has one afternoon free. We act as a dependable local partner for embassies, consulates and foreign missions, arranging official meetings, guest transport, guided visits for visiting staff and family, and hospitality for cultural events. Because we answer around the clock, a last-minute change on your side is met with a calm solution on ours.
Typical programme
Official meeting and reception arrangements
Guest hospitality and airport meet-and-assist
Cultural tours for visiting staff and families
Holding Companies, Corporate Personnel and Meetings
A board meeting in Istanbul should feel as though the city cooperated. We manage transfers for executives and corporate personnel, book meeting rooms and negotiation venues, arrange interpreters, and design the hours around the agenda: a private Topkapı morning for visiting investors, a Bosphorus dinner to close a deal, an incentive trip that rewards a sales team. Invoices are clear, timing is exact, and your people arrive relaxed enough to do their best work.
Typical programme
Executive transfers and meeting logistics
Negotiation dinners and networking evenings
Incentive travel and team-building days
Football Clubs and Sporting-Event Arrangements
Football is a second religion in Istanbul, and a visiting club steps into a city that knows the sport intimately. We handle squad and staff transfers, hotel coordination, meals that suit a training schedule, and rest-day sightseeing that does not exhaust players. For fans and federations we arrange match-day transport, stadium-area logistics and championship dinners. When a team wins, we also know how to help it celebrate properly on the water, with the skyline as the backdrop.
Typical programme
Squad, staff and equipment transport
Rest-day cultural visits with light schedules
Match-day and championship-celebration events
Receptions, Rallies and Political-Party Events
Large gatherings depend on quiet infrastructure: venues, seating, stage schedules, accreditation lists, vehicles for speakers and hospitality for delegates. We provide the logistics for receptions, conferences, party congresses and rallies, working politically neutrally and in coordination with venues and the competent authorities. Our aim is a smooth event where the organisers can concentrate on their message, and the guests concentrate on being welcomed well.
Typical programme
Venue sourcing, layout and stage scheduling
Delegate transport and accommodation
Registration, hospitality and on-site support
Galas, Invitations and Private Party Organisation
A great gala is choreographed like a film: arrival, first impression, first toast, first surprise. We organise galas, launch parties, private dinners and invitation-only evenings in palaces, waterfront halls, restaurants and on yachts. We handle invitations and guest lists, décor, lighting, music, catering and transfers. Istanbul makes it easy to be memorable, because the venue is often the skyline itself, and our task is to give it the right frame.
Typical programme
Guest list, invitations and arrival flow
Décor, lighting, music and catering
Late-night transfers for every guest
Weddings, Anniversaries, Graduations and Family Celebrations
Milestones deserve a setting equal to the feeling. We plan wedding celebrations and anniversary dinners, graduation parties, the traditional Turkish circumcision feast (sünnet düğünü) with its music and family rituals, and championship or sports-victory parties. Some families want a quiet table for eight above the Bosphorus; others want a hundred guests, a band and a boat. We plan both with the same attention to comfort, tradition and the smallest detail.
Typical programme
Private venues, yachts and terraces
Traditional music, cake and photography
Guest transport and hotel blocks
VIP Transportation and Official Car Rental
Istanbul’s traffic is a science of its own, and the right driver is worth more than the right car. We rent VIP official cars, minivans and executive vehicles with professional chauffeurs for airport transfers, city days, intercity journeys and multi-day official programmes. Vehicles are clean, air-conditioned and matched to your party’s size and style, and every driver knows the routes, the shortcuts and the etiquette of doors and luggage.
Typical programme
Airport, port and hotel transfers
Full-day and multi-day chauffeur hire
Intercity travel to Cappadocia, Ephesus and beyond
Boat and Yacht Charters on the Bosphorus
The Bosphorus is Istanbul’s main street, and the best seat on it is on the deck of a private boat. We charter yachts by the hour or the day for sightseeing, sunset cruises, romantic proposals, business hospitality, birthdays and weddings. Crews handle the navigation, we handle the menu and the timing, and you handle the view. Sail past waterfront mansions, the Rumeli fortress and both intercontinental bridges at a pace that suits your group.
Typical programme
Hourly and full-day private yacht hire
Sunset, dinner and celebration cruises
Princes’ Islands and Black Sea extensions
Licensed Guides in Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus and Pamukkale
A guide changes a monument from stone into a story. Our professional, licensed guides work in English and Spanish, with other languages available on request, and each specialises in the region they know best: Byzantine and Ottoman Istanbul, the valleys of Cappadocia, the marble streets of Ephesus, the white terraces of Pamukkale. They match their pace to your group, whether that means a delegation of ministers or a family with young children.
Historical and Cultural Tours, Excursions and School Travel
Learning travels well when it is planned with a teacher’s mind. We design school trips, university visits and educational excursions that connect the curriculum to the ground: a lesson on Byzantium taught inside Hagia Sophia, a lesson on trade in the Grand Bazaar. For adults and families we run private historical and cultural tours and multi-day packages, from a single afternoon to a two-week journey across Anatolia.
Typical programme
Curriculum-linked school and university trips
Private daily excursions from Istanbul
Multi-day cultural packages across Turkey
Flights, Museum Tickets and Dinner with Entertainment
The smallest arrangements often decide whether a trip feels effortless. We book internal flights to Cappadocia, Izmir, Antalya and beyond, secure museum and attraction tickets so that you never queue at a kiosk, and organise dinners with entertainment: a Sema ceremony followed by a candlelit table, a folkloric evening with live music, or an Ottoman banquet in a restored hall. One conversation handles all of it.
Typical programme
Domestic flight booking and airport assistance
Attraction and museum ticket handling
Dinners with music, dance or ceremony
Signature Itinerary
Three Signature VIP Days in Istanbul
Each day below is a complete VIP experience on its own, and the reservation form books one of them. Combine two or three days for a fuller stay, or ask us to rewrite any day around your interests, your dates and the opening hours of the moment. Opening days for palaces, museums and bazaars change from season to season, so we confirm every venue when your date is set and reorder the day if needed.
Your chauffeur and licensed guide meet you at the door
The day starts with cold water, a briefing over a map and a simple question: which of the city’s stories do you want to hear first? From this moment your guide and driver work as one team and adapt the timings to how you feel.
09:30 · Sultanahmet Square
The Hippodrome, where Constantinople once roared
Stand in the ancient racetrack where up to 100,000 spectators once watched chariots thunder past. The Egyptian obelisk of Thutmose III, raised here in 390 CE, and the twisted Serpent Column brought from Delphi still mark the old central spine. Your guide explains how a chariot-racing riot in 532 led directly to the building you are about to enter.
10:15 · The Blue Mosque
A cascade of domes, lit blue from within
Completed in 1616 for Sultan Ahmed I, the mosque is famous for its six minarets and the tens of thousands of İznik tiles that give the interior its glow. We time the entrance between prayer times so you can stand quietly beneath the central dome.
11:15 · Hagia Sophia
Fifteen centuries under one floating dome
Justinian’s cathedral, mosque of the conquerors, museum of a republic, and a mosque again: few buildings on earth have carried so many meanings. Your guide reads its layers aloud, from the imperial marble to the Ottoman calligraphy, and points out the small details the crowds walk past.
12:45 · Lunch
A seated lunch in an Ottoman-style kitchen
We choose a quiet restaurant near Sultanahmet where the menu leans on slow-cooked lamb, seasonal vegetables in olive oil and desserts made with clotted cream and honey. Vegetarian, halal and allergy needs are agreed with the kitchen beforehand.
14:15 · Basilica Cistern
The sunken palace of 336 columns
Descend into a cool, softly lit Byzantine reservoir where marble columns rise from still water. Look for the two Medusa heads carved into column bases, reused from an earlier Roman building, and hear why nobody knows for certain why one lies sideways and the other upside down.
15:15 · Topkapı Palace
Courtyards, treasures and the sultans’ terrace
Walk through four courtyards where Ottoman sultans ruled for nearly four centuries, then step out onto a terrace where the Bosphorus, the Golden Horn and the Marmara Sea all meet. The Imperial Treasury and the sacred relics are the highlights, and the Harem section, included on this day, gives a deeper look at palace life.
Insider note
Topkapı Palace has a weekly closing day and Hagia Sophia’s visiting arrangements for foreign guests have changed in recent years. We verify both when you choose your date and swap the order of the day if necessary, so you never arrive at a locked gate.
The last sultans’ European-style palace on the water
Built between 1843 and 1856, this waterfront palace replaced Topkapı as the seat of the empire. Its Ceremonial Hall lies under a dome more than fifty metres high, lit by a giant crystal chandelier, and its clocks still stand at 9:05, the minute Atatürk died here in 1938. Palace visits are conducted on set guided routes, and your own guide adds the context.
12:30 · Waterfront lunch
A table on the Bosphorus at Ortaköy or Bebek
Fresh fish, grilled seafood and meze, served on a terrace within sight of the water. It is the ideal pause before the afternoon on the boat.
14:00 · Private Bosphorus yacht
Two hours from Europe to Asia and back
Board your own yacht and glide beneath the Bosphorus Bridge past Ortaköy Mosque, Beylerbeyi Palace, the fortress of Rumeli Hisarı and rows of timber waterfront mansions. Your crew serves refreshments while your guide names each landmark. It is the most relaxing two hours of the trip.
16:30 · Çamlıca Hill
The great panorama over the Asian side
From the highest viewpoint in the city, the whole urban sweep of Istanbul unfolds, from the Bosphorus and its bridges to the domes of the old peninsula. On a clear day, the shipping lanes shimmer like a road of light.
17:45 · Galata and Beyoğlu
The Genoese tower and a boulevard of 19th-century façades
The medieval Galata Tower rises above the old Genoese quarter, and Istiklal Avenue below is lined with elegant apartment buildings from the era of the Orient Express. Ride the historic tram, sip Turkish coffee in a hidden courtyard, then meet your driver at sunset.
Insider note
The yacht segment is weather-dependent and best in the late afternoon light. If the Bosphorus is choppy, we reschedule the boat within the same day or replace it with a walk through a waterfront neighbourhood.
3
Minarets, Bazaars and an Evening of Ceremony
09:30 – 21:30 · Süleymaniye, Spice Bazaar, Grand Bazaar, dinner with entertainment
09:30 · Süleymaniye Mosque
Sinan’s masterpiece above the Golden Horn
Built between 1550 and 1557 for Süleyman the Magnificent, this is the grand summit of Ottoman architecture. Its courtyard terrace offers one of the great views of the city, and the tombs of the sultan and the architect lie a few steps away.
11:00 · Spice Bazaar
Colour, scent and a tasting you will remember
Under the Egyptian Bazaar’s vaults, pyramids of saffron, sumac and Turkish delight compete for your attention. Your guide leads you to the traders who are worth your custom and away from the ones who are not.
12:15 · Lunch in the old trading quarter
A local kitchen, not a tourist menu
Lunch is at a family-run restaurant used by the merchants of the surrounding hans. Expect soups, kebabs from a wood oven and a syrupy dessert to finish.
13:30 · Grand Bazaar
Sixty-one streets under one roof
One of the oldest covered markets in the world, begun in the 1450s. Follow the guide through ceramics, leather, carpets, lamps and jewellery, and learn how to recognise quality and how to bargain with a smile.
19:30 · Evening finale
Dinner with a Sema ceremony or a folkloric show
End the trip with a candlelit dinner and a performance: the meditative whirling of a Sema ceremony, or a lively evening of Anatolian dance and music. Tables and tickets are booked in advance, and your chauffeur waits to take you home. On the small-group option this evening is an add-on.
Insider note
The Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays and public holidays. If your day falls on one, we move the bazaars to another day of your stay and use the time for a private Golden Horn ferry ride and a walk through the historic neighbourhoods.

Hagia Sophia: The Dome That Changed Architecture
Emperor Justinian gave his architects, Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles, an impossible brief: build a church so large and so bright that it seemed to hang from heaven. Completed in 537, the dome spans some 31 metres and rises about 55 metres above the floor, and for roughly a thousand years it covered the largest cathedral on earth. After 1453 it became an imperial mosque, gaining minarets, medallions of calligraphy and the sultan’s private loge. Its Byzantine mosaics, Ottoman additions and Viking runes carved into a gallery balustrade make it a library of the city’s past. Modest dress is required, and visiting hours around prayer are managed by the authorities, so timing matters.

The Blue Mosque: Six Minarets and a Sea of İznik Tiles
Sultan Ahmed I was barely nineteen when he commissioned this mosque, and the architect Sedefkâr Mehmed Ağa answered with a design of cascading domes and semi-domes that seems to climb toward the sky. Its six slender minarets, a rare number, are the subject of a popular story about a quarrel with Mecca that ended with a seventh minaret being added there. Inside, more than twenty thousand hand-painted İznik tiles in blues, greens and reds give the mosque its popular name. It is still an active place of worship, so visits are arranged between prayers, and your guide will explain the rituals respectfully as you look.

The Hippodrome: Constantinople’s Racetrack of Power
Begun under Septimius Severus and completed by Constantine as his new capital rose, the Hippodrome was the social heart of the empire, a place where the emperor met his people and where chariot factions fought as fiercely as any modern supporters. In 532 the Nika riots exploded here and left half the city burning, which cleared the ground for Hagia Sophia. Only fragments remain, but they are extraordinary: an Egyptian obelisk older than Rome, a bronze serpent column cast after the Greek victory at Plataea in 479 BCE, and the crumbling Walled Obelisk. It takes fifteen minutes and rewires how you see the square.

The Basilica Cistern: A Cathedral for Water
Beneath the streets near Hagia Sophia lies a hidden hall of 336 marble columns arranged in twelve rows, built under Justinian to store water for the imperial palace. The city forgot it for centuries until a French scholar, Petrus Gyllius, followed rumours of locals fishing through their basement floors. Today, raised walkways cross the shallow water, soft light picks out each column and two carved Medusa heads keep silent watch. The temperature is cool year-round, which makes it a welcome refuge on hot summer afternoons.

Topkapı Palace: The Sultans’ City Within a City
Mehmed the Conqueror began building this palace soon after taking Constantinople, and for nearly four hundred years it was the home of the sultans and the nerve centre of an empire on three continents. Four courtyards step up in privacy from the public Gate of Salutation to the innermost terrace, and beyond them lie the Imperial Treasury, the Holy Relics, the palace kitchens and the Harem with its hundreds of rooms. The Grand Kiosk terrace offers a view that no other palace in Europe can match, across the meeting of the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara.

Dolmabahçe Palace: Empire in Crystal and Gold
When Sultan Abdülmecid I decided that the empire needed a palace that spoke the language of Europe, the Balyan family of architects gave him a marble façade nearly 600 metres long on the very edge of the Bosphorus. Inside are 285 rooms and 46 halls, Baccarat crystal, Hereke silk carpets and a Ceremonial Hall whose dome rises above a chandelier of extraordinary size. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk spent his last days here, and the palace clocks are set to the minute of his death. It still hosts state ceremonies, which is why visits follow set routes with palace guides, and why our own guide supplies the story around them.

The Bosphorus: A Strait That Divides Continents and Unites a City
The Bosphorus is only about thirty kilometres long, yet it links the Black Sea to the Marmara and separates Europe from Asia. Empires fought for it, traders paid tolls to cross it, and today three great bridges span it. From the water you see it as the sultans did: Rumeli Hisarı, the fortress that Mehmed II raised in a matter of months in 1452; the baroque façade of Ortaköy Mosque; the imperial pavilions of Beylerbeyi; and timber waterfront mansions with private boat-houses. At sunset the skyline goes from silver to copper to rose, and it is the view guests remember most.

Süleymaniye Mosque: The Skyline’s Crown
Mimar Sinan, the greatest architect of the Ottoman age, built this mosque for Süleyman the Magnificent and called it his journeyman work, though many call it his greatest. The dome, roughly 53 metres high, floats over an interior filled with light and calm, and the complex around it once contained a hospital, a bath, kitchens, schools and a library. Outside, the terrace looks over the Golden Horn to the Galata Tower. Nearby lie the tombs of Süleyman, his wife Hürrem and Sinan himself, and the quiet gardens around them are a tonic after the crowds of Sultanahmet.

The Grand Bazaar began as a vaulted trading hall in the 1450s and grew into a labyrinth of some sixty-one covered streets with thousands of shops selling ceramics, carpets, lamps, leather and gold. A short walk away, the L-shaped Spice Bazaar, completed in the 1660s beside the New Mosque, still smells of saffron, cinnamon and fresh coffee. Both markets are noisy, generous and wonderfully human. Across the Golden Horn from the old peninsula, the Genoese merchants of the 14th century raised a stone tower as the crown of their walled colony. Below it, the district of Pera became the diplomatic quarter of the 19th century, with embassies, grand hotels, theatres and the boulevard now called Istiklal Avenue. A nostalgic red tram still rattles along it, cafés hide in courtyards and the city’s best modern art galleries lie a few streets away. Extend Your Journey to Cappadocia, Ephesus and Pamukkale
Turkey is far larger than its biggest city. We arrange internal flights, private transfers and licensed regional guides so that the same VIP standard follows you to the three great sites of central and western Anatolia. Choose a private day trip, or fold them into a multi-day package.
Cappadocia: Fairy Chimneys and Sunrise Balloons
Millions of years ago, volcanoes blanketed central Anatolia in soft tuff, and wind and water carved it into cones, canyons and the “fairy chimneys” that give the region its dreamlike look. Early Christians then hollowed the rock into churches, monasteries and entire underground cities. Today, the Göreme Open-Air Museum preserves painted cave churches, and dawn balloon flights drift above valleys tinted pink by the rising sun. The region is reached by a flight of about ninety minutes from Istanbul.
Why go
UNESCO-listed rock landscape and cave churches
Underground cities and hilltop viewpoints
Sunrise balloon flights, weather permitting
Ephesus: The Best-Preserved Roman City of the East
Ephesus was a great port, a centre of the early Christian world and the home of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders. Walk its marble Curetes Street, gaze up at the two-storey façade of the Library of Celsus and sit in the great theatre where thousands once gathered. The Terrace Houses, with their mosaics and painted walls, show how the wealthy lived. Nearby, the House of the Virgin Mary and the Basilica of St John draw pilgrims of several faiths. The usual route is a flight from Istanbul to Izmir, then about an hour’s drive.
Why go
Library of Celsus, Great Theatre and Terrace Houses
Sites of the early Christian story
Easily combined with a Pamukkale extension
Pamukkale and Hierapolis: The Cotton Castle
Thermal springs rich in calcium have poured down this hillside for millennia, leaving terraces of white travertine and turquoise pools that shimmer like frozen waterfalls. At the top lie the ruins of Hierapolis, a Roman spa city with a theatre, a vast necropolis and the Antique Pool, where you can swim among fallen marble columns. The site is listed by UNESCO, and visitors walk the terraces barefoot to protect the fragile stone. Late afternoon, with the low sun on the white slopes, is the moment to be there.
Why go
White travertine terraces and thermal pools
Roman theatre, necropolis and spa ruins
Sunset light on the terraces

Smart Suggestions to Make Your Istanbul Trip Better
We combine the patterns behind thousands of Istanbul visits with local judgement to suggest small changes that make a large difference. Use these as a starting point, then tell us what suits you.
Old City first, Bosphorus later
Sultanahmet’s big monuments are calmest before 10:00. Water views are best late in the day, when the light turns gold and the strait is quieter.
Match the pace to the people
Traveling with older relatives? We shorten walking blocks, choose sites with step-free access where possible and add seated breaks between the big stops.
Weather-smart swaps
If rain is forecast, we move the yacht and viewpoints to another day and bring the indoor highlights, such as the Basilica Cistern and palaces, forward.
Prayer-time-aware scheduling
Active mosques close briefly for the five daily prayers, and Friday midday is the busiest of all. We build your route around them instead of waiting at a door.
Photograph at the right hour
Morning light suits Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Çamlıca and the Galata area shine at sunset, and the Bosphorus glows after golden hour.
Pack smart
Bring comfortable walking shoes, a light scarf for mosque visits, a thin layer for the cool cistern, sunscreen in summer and a small amount of cash for tips and market tastings.
1
Two days in town? Pair Day 1 with Day 2. Together they cover the Old City monuments and the Bosphorus, the classic first-visit combination.
2
Add Cappadocia. Fly out after your Istanbul days, stay two nights and book the balloon flight for the first morning so a cancelled flight can be moved to the second.
3
Party of seven or more? Ask for a two-vehicle plan. Splitting into two comfortable cars is often easier than one large bus in Istanbul’s narrow streets.
4
Travelling in a holiday period? Opening hours shift during religious holidays and major festivals. Tell us your dates early, and we will secure the popular slots first.
When to Go
The Best Time to Visit Istanbul
Istanbul has a season for every kind of traveller. These are the patterns we plan around.
Spring · April to May
Mild days, blossoming Judas trees and the city’s tulip season. Comfortable for long walks, with the Bosphorus at its greenest.
Summer · June to August

How we set our prices. We compared published 2026 rates from Istanbul operators for private guides, chauffeured vehicles, all-inclusive private days and Bosphorus yachts, then priced the Signature VIP Day at roughly the sum of its parts with a small package saving. Larger parties share vehicle and yacht costs, so the price per person falls; send us your numbers for an exact figure. Delegations, corporate programmes and events depend on group size, venues, vehicles and security needs, so we quote those individually.
Market figures are approximate and change with season, exchange rates and availability; treat them as guidance rather than a quotation. Our published prices are confirmed when you reserve, and any difference is explained before you pay.
Trust & Licensing
Finding a Travel Agency in Turkey: An Honest Checklist
Turkey has thousands of agencies, and they are not all equal. Whether you choose us or someone else, these eight questions separate the reliable operators from the rest.
Is the agency licensed by TÜRSAB?
Licensed travel agencies in Turkey are registered with TÜRSAB, the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies. Ask for the number and check it. Ours is No. 7377.
Who is guiding you?
Professional tourist guides hold an official licence. Ask for your guide’s name and language before you arrive.
What do independent reviewers say?
Look for recent reviews on platforms the agency does not control. Our Tripadvisor profile shows a 5.0 rating from 33 reviews.
Is everything in writing?
A trustworthy agency lists what is included and excluded, day by day, before you pay a deposit.
Are there commission stops?
Ask whether the itinerary includes shop visits and who benefits from them. On our itineraries, market visits are your choice, led by your guide.
What vehicle and driver will you get?
Insist on a modern, air-conditioned vehicle and a professional driver who knows the city.
What are the cancellation and payment terms?
Clear, fair terms show confidence. Ours are free cancellation up to 48 hours before the tour date.
Can you reach a real person, fast?
Test it: send a message and see how quickly a human answers. Guests regularly praise our response time.
The History of Travel in Turkey
Hospitality is older than tourism in these lands. Knowing where it comes from explains a great deal about how a good Turkish host behaves.
13th c.
Seljuk caravanserais rise along the Anatolian Silk Road, spaced roughly a day’s ride apart to shelter merchants and their animals free of charge.
1600s
Evliya Çelebi, the great Ottoman traveller, spends decades exploring the empire and records it in his ten-volume Book of Travels.
1883–1892
The Orient Express links Paris with the Ottoman capital, Sirkeci Terminal opens in 1890 and the Pera Palace Hotel welcomes its passengers in 1892.
1972
TÜRSAB is founded to organise and regulate Turkey’s travel agencies, laying the ground for the modern licensed industry.
2018
The new Istanbul Airport opens, turning the city into one of the busiest air hubs between Europe, Asia and Africa.
Today
The History Travel Agency, founded in 2011 by two professional guides, carries that tradition forward under TÜRSAB licence No. 7377.
Why The History Travel
Built by Guides, Run on Honesty
The History Travel began with two professional tour guides who wanted to serve travellers directly and avoid mass tourism. That origin still shapes every programme we design.
Guide-founded, guest-focused
Our founders know the monuments from the inside. That is why our itineraries sequence sites logically and why guests describe us as hosts rather than vendors.
When a guest falls ill or a flight is delayed, we rearrange the plan and keep the highlights intact. Our reviewers describe exactly that kind of care.

5-Star Excellent Service: What Travellers Say
These are genuine reviews from our Tripadvisor listing, condensed and linked to their originals so you can read every word in context.
5.0
★★★★★
33 reviews on Tripadvisor
Every recent review on our Tripadvisor listing is five stars. Guests from India, Singapore and beyond return to the same themes: a detailed itinerary, a host who stays in touch, knowledgeable guides and fair value.
A family trip through Turkey planned end to end. The guest found the itinerary far more detailed than those from other agents, with every domestic booking, transfer and guide arranged, and regular updates during the journey.
“He kept in touch throughout the trip for updates.”
Bought a seven-day Cappadocia package as a thank-you gift for a partner’s family. The guest called the tour entertaining and enjoyable, praised the owner and staff, and said they would love to return to Turkey with the same company.
Booked a ten-day family package on the recommendation of friends who had visited before. The owner came across as friendly and knowledgeable, the tour was well organised from start to finish, and the family enjoyed it very much.
A couple’s full day in Istanbul with a great lunch, the main mosques and Topkapı Palace. The reviewer felt the guides acted as genuine hosts rather than employees, found the price fair and recommended them wholeheartedly.
Praised the personalised itinerary built around the family’s needs, the promptness and professionalism during the trip, the knowledgeable English-speaking guides and the quality of the transport and hotels.
A first visit to Turkey with a customised Istanbul plan that flowed logically from the first attraction to the last. When a family member fell ill, the itinerary was rearranged for more rest without losing any of the sights, and tea at the office became a favourite memory.
The organiser met the guests at their accommodation on day one and arranged a Cappadocia tour with a friendly, professional local guide. When the balloon flight was cancelled for bad weather, he personally returned the money, and he stayed in contact on WhatsApp until their flight home.
A couple from India who received regular contact from departure to return. Vegetarian lunches were arranged in advance, and the guide’s calm manner stood out. The reviewer also gives practical advice: wear comfortable shoes, carry water and keep small change handy.
“A professional one with exemplary tour itinerary.”
A wonderful trip booked directly with the owner, adapted to the guest’s requests and delivered with generous hospitality. The reviewer strongly recommends booking this way.

Why You Will Love Travelling with The History Travel
Because a trip to Istanbul should feel the way the city looks from the deck of a boat at sunset: unhurried, generous and quietly extraordinary. Behind every hour of your programme there is a person who has thought about it, a guide who knows what lies behind each door and a host who answers when you call.
Tell us who is travelling, what you would like to feel at the end of the day and how much of the city you want to see. We will build the rest, and we will build it honestly.
