Devrent Valley, Pasabag (Monks Valley), Avanos, the Zelve Open Air Museum and a photo stop at Uchisar's natural castle.
Cappadocia & Pamukkale, Back to Back
This 3 days Pamukkale and Cappadocia tour from Istanbul is a fast, well-organised Turkey package tour for travellers who want to see two of the country's best-known landscapes without spending a week on the road. Instead of a long overland transfer, three short domestic flights connect Istanbul, Cappadocia, Izmir and back again, so almost every hour of the trip is spent at the sights. The price covers 2 nights with breakfast, including a night in a Cappadocia cave hotel, two local lunches, licensed English-speaking guides, all entrance fees and all airport transfers.
Soar over Cappadocia's fairy-tale terrain in an optional hot air balloon, and immerse yourself in the region's otherworldly rock formations across a full North and South Cappadocia circuit. Next, unwind at Pamukkale's iconic thermal terraces and explore the ancient city of Hierapolis, before flying back to Istanbul the same evening, blending Turkey's natural wonders and rich history into one seamless three-day trip.
What You Will See on the Cappadocia and Pamukkale Tour
Both full days in Cappadocia are packed with sights. Day 1 (North Cappadocia) visits Devrent Valley, Pasabag (Monks Valley), Avanos, the Zelve Open Air Museum and a photo stop at Uchisar's natural castle. Day 2 (South Cappadocia) covers Red Valley, a 5 km walk through Rose Valley, Cavusin village, Pigeon Valley and the Kaymakli or Ozkonak underground city. Day 3 is devoted to the Cotton Cliffs of Pamukkale and the Roman ruins of Hierapolis, including its basilica, theatre and baths. That is at least four places on every touring day, each explained by a licensed Cappadocia tour guide or the Pamukkale guide.
Who Is This Istanbul to Cappadocia and Pamukkale Tour For?
The tour suits first-time visitors to Turkey, couples, photographers, history lovers and anyone on a short break who wants the best of Cappadocia and Pamukkale in 3 days. It is also a practical choice if you are already staying in Istanbul and have only a long weekend to spare. A moderate amount of walking is involved in both regions, so comfortable shoes are essential; the Rose Valley hike is the most active part of the program.
Cappadocia Hot Air Balloon: Optional Add-On
A sunrise Cappadocia hot air balloon ride is not part of the standard price, but it can be added on the morning of Day 2 at extra cost. Balloon flights depend on weather conditions, and the early start fits neatly before your South Cappadocia tour begins.
Group Tour or Private Tour
This is a regular group tour, which keeps the price at $740 per person. If you prefer your own guide, vehicle and flexible pace, it can be arranged as a private Cappadocia and Pamukkale tour on request at additional cost. Hotels can also be upgraded; see the accommodation section for details, or read more about our Pamukkale package tours.
A note on flights. This route uses three flight legs: Istanbul to Kayseri or Nevsehir, Cappadocia to Izmir (via Istanbul), and Izmir or Denizli back to Istanbul. Luggage allowance is 15 kg per person for checked baggage, plus one 8 kg carry-on.
Why this route works
Cappadocia and Pamukkale are two of Turkey's most photographed landscapes, and they sit on opposite sides of the country. Flying between them turns a trip that normally needs a week into a long weekend.
Day one covers North Cappadocia, day two the South and the flight west, and day three Pamukkale and Hierapolis. Each stage changes the scenery completely: volcanic valleys and cave churches first, then white calcium terraces and Roman ruins.

The route runs Istanbul, Kayseri or Nevsehir, Cappadocia, Izmir, Kusadasi, Pamukkale and back to Istanbul.

You then visit Cavusin village, stop for lunch, see the dovecotes of Pigeon Valley and finish underground in the Kaymakli or Ozkonak Underground City. In the evening you fly to Izmir via Istanbul and transfer to Kusadasi for the night. An early-morning hot air balloon ride can be added before the tour at extra cost.
Day 3: Pamukkale & Hierapolis, Cotton Cliffs, Basilica, Theatre & Roman Baths

Cappadocia: A Landscape Shaped by Volcanoes and Carved by People
Two full days, ten places and one cave-hotel night across both halves of the region.
Cappadocia's soft volcanic rock has been eroded into cones, pinnacles and mushroom caps, and people have been carving homes, churches and storerooms into it for centuries. Two full days let you see both halves of the region: the North with its fairy chimneys and open-air museum, and the South with its walking valleys and underground city.
Few places mix scenery and history so closely. A morning can begin in a valley that looks like another planet and end inside a church painted by monks who lived in the cliff. Your licensed guide connects the landscape to the people who shaped it, so each stop adds to the story.
Devrent Valley
Stop 1Often called Imagination Valley, Devrent is filled with cones and pinnacles that look like animals and figures depending on the light. It is an easy, photogenic first stop.
Pasabag (Monks Valley)
Stop 2Pasabag is known for mushroom-shaped rock formations, several with multiple caps on one stem. The name recalls the hermits who once lived in cells carved into the rock.
Avanos
Stop 3A riverside town with a long pottery tradition, Avanos gives you a relaxed break and a local lunch, included in the price, before the afternoon sights.
Zelve Open Air Museum
Stop 4Zelve is a valley of rock-carved churches and dwellings from the region's monastic past. You can walk among the abandoned cave homes and see how whole communities lived inside the cliffs.
Uchisar Castle (photo stop)
Stop 5Uchisar's natural castle rises above the surrounding valleys. You have roughly 15 minutes of free time to photograph it from outside.
Red Valley
Stop 1Red Valley's ancient rock-cut churches sit among rust-red cliffs and make a scenic start to the South Cappadocia day.
Rose Valley (Gulludere)
Stop 2A 5 km hike through Rose Valley shows Cappadocia on foot, with rock that shifts from cream to pink as the light changes. It is the most active part of the tour.
Cavusin Village
Stop 3Cavusin's centuries-old homes and churches were once inhabited by Christian clergymen. The old village, carved into a cliff face, shows how daily life and worship shared the same rock.
Pigeon Valley (Guvercinlik)
Stop 4Thousands of small niches were cut into the cliffs here for doves, a reminder of how closely people shaped this landscape. Lunch is taken before the visit.
Kaymakli or Ozkonak Underground City
Stop 5Multi-level cities dug into soft rock as places of shelter. Narrow passages reveal the fascinating history of early Christian life below the surface. Wear good shoes: the tunnels are low and steep in places.

Pamukkale & Hierapolis: The Cotton Cliffs and a Roman Spa City
One afternoon, four places and a late-evening flight home.
Pamukkale means "cotton castle" in Turkish, and the name fits. Thermal water rich in calcium has flowed down the hillside for thousands of years, leaving white terraces and shallow pools that glow against the blue sky above the Denizli plain.
At the top of the terraces lie the ruins of Hierapolis, a Roman spa city whose visitors came to bathe in the hot springs. Together the terraces and the city form one UNESCO World Heritage Site and a fitting finale to the trip.
Pamukkale Cotton Cliffs
Stop 1A natural wonder formed by calcium deposits, the Cotton Cliffs are a staircase of white terraces and turquoise pools. You can walk the terraces and, optionally, swim in the free travertine pools.
Hierapolis Basilica
Stop 2Among the ruins at the top of the terraces stands the basilica of Hierapolis, one of the best-known monuments of the ancient spa city.
Hierapolis Theatre
Stop 3The ancient theatre rises in tiers and shows how the Roman city staged its performances. Your guide explains how the site was used and why it still draws visitors.
Roman Baths
Stop 4The Roman Baths recall the spa culture around which Hierapolis grew. Warm mineral water was the city's great attraction.
